Chile Tourist Visa for Indians 2026: Fees, Documents & Process

Indian citizens who want to visit Chile for tourism, holidays, or to visit family and friends apply for a short-stay tourist visa — the Permanencia Transitoria, which covers tourism, recreation, sports, family visits and similar temporary stays of up to 90 days. It is your only chance to speak to the officer, so be specific about why Chile and not just any country. If you are visiting family or friends — Include a notarized invitation letter from your host in Chile, with their full name, address, contact number and a copy of their ID or residence document. Underestimating the timeline. Standard processing is 15-20 working days, but the official guidance warns the process can stretch to several weeks, and in rare complex cases up to 6 months. Applicants who apply two weeks out and book flights for that window are the ones who panic — apply 3-4 weeks ahead, earlier in December-February.

The Atacama Desert delivers the sky of a lifetime. San Pedro de Atacama is a dusty frontier town surrounded by absurd landscapes — the Valley of the Moon at sunset, the El Tatio geysers at dawn, salt flats pink with flamingos, and night skies so dark that the Milky Way looks like a painted ceiling. For Indian travellers raised on bright city lights, the stargazing alone justifies the trip.

Patagonia is a cathedral of rock and ice. Torres del Paine's granite towers rise 2,800 metres straight out of steppe, glaciers calve into turquoise lakes, and guanacos wander past the trail. Weather: Remember the seasons are reversed — December-February is Chilean summer (the best all-round window), June-August is the Andean ski season, and Patagonia is best November-March.
