Monaco Visa for Indians 2026: Fees, Process & Requirements

Monaco is not a member of the European Union or a signatory to the Schengen Agreement. However, under the Convention on Good Neighbourly Relations of 18 May 1963, Monaco maintains a customs union and shared border control with France. • No separate Monaco visa exists. You apply for a French Schengen visa (Type C), which permits entry to Monaco.

• A valid French Schengen visa grants automatic entry to Monaco with no additional formalities at the France-Monaco border (there are no border checks).
• Monaco must be your main destination or the first point of entry if visiting multiple Schengen countries. If you spend more nights in another Schengen country, apply at that country's consulate instead.

According to the official Monaco Embassy in India: "Nationals of countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including Indian nationals, wishing to visit the Principality of Monaco must be in possession of a valid Schengen visa issued by France."

Types of Visa

Important: If visiting multiple Schengen countries in one trip, apply at the consulate of the country where you spend the most nights. • Valid Passport — Issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen Area, minimum 2 blank pages. Submit photocopies of all pages with stamps and any previous Schengen visas. Include old passports if available.
• Visa Application Form — Completed online via France-Visas portal (france-visas.gouv.fr). Print and sign. Critical: The printed form must show "FINAL" status, not "DRAFT" — draft applications will be rejected at the VFS centre.
• Two Passport-Sized Photographs — 35mm x 45mm, white background, 70-80% face coverage, taken within last 6 months. Must meet ICAO standards. No glasses or headwear (except for religious reasons).

• Employment/Occupation Proof — Employer letter on company letterhead stating designation, salary, and leave approval. Self-employed: business registration, GST returns. Students: bonafide certificate.
• Proof of Civil Status — Marriage certificate, birth certificates of children (if applicable).
• Proof of Ties to India — Property documents, family ties proof, employment contract, educational enrollment.

Monaco-Specific Document Notes

• Accommodation: If you plan to stay in Nice (France) and visit Monaco as a day trip, provide your Nice hotel booking and clearly explain the Monaco visit in your itinerary. The consulate needs to see where you will sleep each night.
• Cover Letter: State clearly that Monaco is your primary destination and explain why you are visiting specifically (e.g., cultural sites, business meeting, family visit). Avoid vague statements.
• Financial Proof: Monaco has a high cost of living. Maintain a consistent bank balance of ₹2-3 lakhs for 6 months before applying. Sudden large deposits raise red flags.

• Get bank statements printed within 7 days of your VFS appointment — older statements may be questioned.
• Highlight salary credits with a yellow marker so the case officer can spot them instantly.
• Submit statements from all accounts you maintain — multiple accounts show a complete financial picture.
• Fixed deposit receipts work as proof of assets but do not replace liquid funds in a savings account.
• Self-employed applicants should submit current account business statements alongside savings account statements.

Step 1: Determine Your Visa Type

Step 2: Create France-Visas Account and Complete Application

1. Visit france-visas.gouv.fr
2. Create a personal account with a valid email address
3. Complete the online visa application form — select "France" as your destination but indicate Monaco in your travel itinerary
4. Review all information carefully — every detail must match your supporting documents exactly
5. Submit the form and download the completed version
6. Print the form — it must show "FINAL" status (not "DRAFT")

Step 3: Book VFS Global Appointment

1. Visit visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/fra/
2. Select "Book an Appointment" for France visa category
3. Choose your nearest VFS Global centre (see centres list below)
4. Pick an available date and time — appointment slots can fill 2-3 weeks in advance during peak season
5. Pay the VFS service fee online (22 EUR)
6. Print the appointment confirmation letter

Step 5: Attend VFS Appointment

1. Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time
2. Carry all original documents plus A4 photocopies

5. Submit documents at the counter
6. Provide biometrics (10 fingerprints + digital photograph) — unless you have provided biometrics for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months

Step 6: Track Your Application

Step 7: Collect Your Passport

Once a decision is made, you will receive an SMS/email. Collect your passport from the VFS centre or opt for courier delivery. If approved, verify the visa sticker immediately — check your name spelling, passport number, dates, and entry type (single/multiple).

All Monaco visa applications must be submitted at VFS Global France centres (not Monaco-specific centres, as Monaco has no consular presence in India).

Staying in Monaco

No registration is required for stays under 90 days. Keep your passport, visa copy, travel insurance certificate, and accommodation proof accessible. Carry your passport when moving around — although there are no border checks between France and Monaco, identification may be requested.

For Long-Stay Visa Holders

If you have a long-stay visa (Type D) for Monaco, you must register with the Monegasque authorities after arrival. Your employer or university will typically guide you through residency registration at the Direction de la Sûreté Publique.
