Monaco Tourist Visa Guide for Indians 2026

Monaco does not issue its own visas. Indian citizens must obtain a French Schengen Type C visa, which covers entry to Monaco through the bilateral agreement between the two countries.

Most of what you need is standard for any Schengen application. Gather these before applying:

Mandatory documents:

1.      Passport — Valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay, with at least 1 blank page for the visa sticker. Must be in good condition.

2.      Previously issued passports — Mandatory submission of all previous passports containing visa stamps and travel history.

3.      Visa application form — Completed online through the France-Visas website (france-visas.gouv.fr), printed, and signed.

4.      Passport-size photographs — Two recent identical colour photos, 47mm x 36mm, white background, taken within the last 3 months.

5.      Cover letter — Explaining your purpose of visit, why Monaco specifically, your planned itinerary, and how you will fund the trip.

6.      Flight reservation — A confirmed round-trip booking. Do NOT purchase final tickets before visa approval — a reservation is sufficient.

8.      Travel insurance — Minimum €30,000 coverage across all Schengen countries, covering medical emergencies, hospitalisation, repatriation, and evacuation.

1. Applying to the wrong consulate. Monaco does not have its own embassy or consulate in India. You must apply through the French Embassy or VFS Global France Visa Application Centre. Applying to the wrong mission results in automatic rejection.

2. Not indicating Monaco as primary destination. If Monaco is your main destination, indicate it clearly in your application. The French consulate processes your visa based on where you spend the most days.

3. Insufficient financial proof. This is the number one reason for Schengen visa rejection (35% of cases). Monaco is expensive — the embassy expects to see funds that match the destination. Show at least €65-100 per day with consistent bank statements over 6 months.

4. Passport with less than 6 months validity. Schengen requires your passport to be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure. However, many consulates prefer 6 months — check with VFS before applying.

5. Inconsistent information across documents. Dates, names, amounts, and purpose must match exactly across your application form, cover letter, bank statements, and flight reservations. Even small discrepancies lead to rejection.

6. Not carrying old passports. Old passports with previous visa stamps and travel history strengthen your application significantly. Failing to submit them weakens your credibility.

7. Buying non-refundable tickets before visa approval. A flight reservation with PNR is sufficient for the application. Do not purchase final tickets until your visa is approved.

Monaco does not have its own airport. The nearest airport is Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE), just 13 kilometres away. No direct flights exist from India to Nice.
