The time taken for the processing of the business permit depends on several factors such as the number of entries, the validity issued, the volume of applications at the embassy, as well as your previous travel history. Normally, it takes around 10-15 working days to process this permit. However, it can take up to 30 days in certain cases, and even up to 60 days in extreme cases. As a result, it is suggested that you apply for the permit well in advance. You must apply at least 15 days before the travel date, but no more than 3 months prior to the date.

Once you have submitted the application at the VAC, they will then forward it to the embassy of Malta in New Delhi. Note that even if the application is submitted at the VAC, they have no influence over the processing. This is solely in the hands of the embassy.
Once your visa has been approved, you can either collect it directly from the VAC in person, or you can have it delivered to you for an additional charge.

Schengen C category visas cannot be extended under normal conditions. This applies to the Maltese business permit as well. However, in certain extreme cases such as a Force Majeure, or other humanitarian reasons, you may be granted an extension. In all other circumstances, you must leave the country before expiry.
As per the laws, you must leave the country before the exact date of the expiry. You are not permitted to stay back after the mentioned date. Staying back after this is considered as an offence and get you deported. And in certain cases, you may even be banned from re-entry into the Schengen area.
Being a form of the short term C category visa, there are no mandatory medical test requirements. No matter how long the validity, the stay duration cannot exceed 90 days in a 180-day period. As a result, a medical test is not compulsory. However, it is suggested that you get a medical checkup done before travelling to a new country.
No, you cannot convert any of the Schengen C category into another permit. This applies for the business permit as well. You are also not permitted to work on payroll of any Maltese company while you are on this permit. If you do require a work permit, you must apply for one once you are back in your home country.
