The Malaysian work visa is an endorsement that lets individuals enter the country to take part in employment opportunities for a long duration. Only a few nationals have visa-free entry for this purpose. A Malaysia work visa for Indians is a mandatory requirement if you are an Indian passport holder. Something to note is that being a type of the ‘Visa with Reference’ (VDR), your dependee or sponsor will have to procure a letter of approval from the Immigration Department in Malaysia first. The time for processing of the work visa depends on the volume of applications at the embassy, the number of entries, your previous travel history, staff availability at the VAC, and so on. Normally, it can take up to 7 days to process the application. It can also take quite a lot of time getting the letter of approval. As a result, ensure that you apply well in advance.
The fees for the work permit depends on the foreign exchange rates as well as the country of application. It also includes other service charges levied by the VAC, as well any delivery charges if you choose that option. You must check the exact amount before starting the application.
After submitting your work visa application at the respective VAC, it is then forwarded to the High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi or to the Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai or Chennai as per the jurisdiction. The respective mission will then process your application. Note that the VAC or the embassy has no influence over the decision making of the visa. These visas are approved by the Immigration Department in Malaysia. The embassy/consulate simply process your entry visa.

Unlike the short duration permits, the work pass may be extended as per your contract. You can do this by visiting the immigration department in Malaysia and applying for an extension. However, the possibility of an extension depends on the status of your sponsor. If you do not receive an extension, you must leave the country immediately.
Once your work permit has expired, you are not allowed to stay back. There is no stay back period allowed for the work pass. Staying back in the country after expiry is considered as an offence and can lead to fines and even deportation in certain cases.
As per the work permit requirements, there is no need for a medical test from India. However, certain other nationalities may have to submit a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Either way, it is suggested that you get a medical test done before travelling to a foreign country.
As per the requirements, there is no need to submit any bank statements for this category. As a result, you do not have to possess any funds. Since you are going as a an employee, it is expected that your salary will cover your expenses. However, you are expected to meet the necessary minimum salary criteria as per the category.
Since the processing time for the Malaysian work permit is around 7 working days, you may apply accordingly. As per the recommendation, it will be best if you apply at least 14 days before your intended date of travel. However, since you will need an approval letter from Malaysia, that can take a lot of time. As a result, it is suggested that you start the entire process about a month in advance.
