The short answer: yes, most Indian passport holders need a visa for Belize. However, there is an important exemption.

• Visa-free entry with valid US multiple-entry visa or Green Card: Up to 30 days
• Visa-free entry with valid Canada visa or Permanent Residence: Up to 30 days
• Visa-free entry with valid Schengen multiple-entry visa: Up to 30 days
• Standard consular visa (no qualifying visa): Required — apply in New Delhi

Indian passport holders can enter Belize visa-free if they hold a valid multiple-entry visa from the US, Canada, or Schengen Area. This also applies to holders of a valid US Green Card.

Key conditions for visa-free entry:

• The visa must be valid and multiple-entry — single-entry visas do not qualify
• Maximum stay of 30 days (extendable at Belize Immigration Office)
• Arrive and depart through any authorised port of entry (air, land, or sea)

Visa-free entry does NOT apply if your US/Canada/Schengen visa has expired. The visa must be currently valid at the time of entering Belize.

Flights from India to Belize: Most Indian travellers fly via the US (Newark, Miami, Houston, or Dallas) or via Europe (London, Amsterdam) to reach Belize City (BZE airport). Since many transit routes go through the US, you need a valid US visa even for transit. This makes the visa-free route the most practical option.

All fees below are set by the Belize Immigration Department (immigration.gov.bz) and are effective from May 2020. Fees are in Belize Dollars (BZD). BZD $2 ≈ USD $1.

Important context for Indian applicants: Indian nationals pay BZD $750 for a single-entry visa while most other nationalities pay only BZD $200 — that is 3.75 times more. This higher fee band is not a processing charge but a policy-level fee set by Belize immigration law for a defined set of nationalities.

Important note: These fees are waived for travellers entering visa-free with a valid US visa, US Green Card, Canada visa/PR, or Schengen visa. The higher fee tier for Indian nationals is set by Belize immigration policy.

All Indian citizens entering Belize — whether visa-free or with a visa — must pay a repatriation fee of BZD $1,200 (approximately USD $600 or ₹50,000) upon arrival at the port of entry. This is a mandatory fee under the Belize Immigration Act (CAP 156) and is payable in cash or by card at the airport immigration counter.

Core Documents Checklist

• Original Indian passport with at least 6 months validity beyond departure from Belize, with a minimum of two to three blank visa pages
• One fully completed and signed Belize visa application form (download from the consulate portal or request via email)

Sponsorship vs Self-Sponsored Applications

Belize Immigration distinguishes between sponsored and self-sponsored applicants.

• Self-Sponsored: You fund your own trip. Requires employment letter, bank statements, and IT returns showing sufficient personal funds.
• Sponsored: A Belize host (company, family member, or organisation) covers your visit. Requires an invitation letter, sponsor's ID copy, sponsor's bank statements, and proof of relationship or business connection.

If you are sponsored, the Belize host must provide their bank financials and a letter of financial support. Self-sponsored applicants skip this but must show stronger personal financials.

Document Translation Note: Any document not in English (e.g., Hindi, Marathi, regional language birth certificates) must be translated by an authorised translator and accompanied by the original. Self-translations are not accepted.

Photo Specifications: 2 copies, passport size (2 x 2 inches or 51 x 51 mm), white background, full face, no sunglasses, not older than 3 months. Camera-clicked photographs only — scanned or self-printed photos are not accepted.

Most Indian banks produce statements that work for Belize visa applications. The consulate expects a steady balance of ₹5-7 lakh over 6 months.

• HDFC Bank: Request a 6-month statement on letterhead with branch stamp
• ICICI Bank: Use the iMobile e-statement, but get it stamped at the branch
• SBI: Get a branch-stamped summary page with your online statement

Step 2: Prepare the Demand Draft

Visit your bank and issue a DD in favour of the Consulate of Belize. For a single-entry visa (BZD $750), the DD amount will be about ₹31,200. Confirm the exact amount with the consulate first.

Step 3: Submit Application to the Consulate

Submit your complete package — DD, documents, and immigration approval (if needed) — to the Honorary Consulate. You can visit in person Mon-Fri, 10AM-5PM (visa submission is usually 10AM-1PM; confirm timing). Or send via courier with prior email coordination.

Step 4: Wait for Processing

The consulate sends your application to Belize Immigration for approval. Standard processing takes 20-30 business days. Follow up if you hear nothing in 3 weeks.

Step 5: Collect Your Passport and Visa

Once approved, the visa goes in your passport. Collect it from the consulate or arrange return courier. Check all visa sticker details before you leave.

Staying longer than 30 days: If you want to extend your stay beyond the initial 30 days, you can apply at a Belize Immigration Office after arrival. Extensions cost BZ$100 (~₹4,100) per additional 30-day period, and you must show proof of USD $60 per day for the extended duration.
